Principal’s Message

Welcome to the 25-26 school year! I’m Evan Grant and it is an honor to serve as Principal of Obsidian Middle School. I believe that education is a child’s ticket to anywhere. Each day students have an opportunity to expand their knowledge, skills, and perceptions of the world. As a fellow parent of two amazing boys, I believe educating our children is the most important investment we make each day. 

I have served in the Redmond School District since 2015. Before moving to Central Oregon I earned my Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Redlands, and my Masters in School Administration from Lewis and Clark College. I then spent several years as the director of a large summer camp in Poway, CA, and taught at a small elementary school in San Diego, CA. In Redmond, I have taught elementary and middle school at the Tumalo Community School before moving to Obsidian Middle School where I served as the Assistant Principal for two school years before becoming Principal beginning with the 2022-23 school year. I’m proud to call the Redmond School District my community.    

Our mission at Obsidian is to ensure every Wolf leaves our school high school-ready and life-ready. This year, we’re excited to focus on quality teaching and learning for all students, and on building the strongest OMS community possible. We’ll do this through high-quality instruction in the classroom, high standards for the way we treat each other, and by creating as many opportunities for our community to engage in the Wolfpack as possible. We’ll teach your student how most grown-ups stay organized and efficient (lists, prioritization). We’ll teach every student how to stay organized using a binder that has all their supplies inside. More than ever, we know that our students deserve our best instruction, and our incredible team is ready to deliver!

We know that the road to high school success starts in middle school. Simply put, middle school matters! Research has demonstrated that a student’s grades and attendance in middle school are one of the greatest predictors of high school graduation. Our goal is to put our students on track for graduation. We want EVERY student to have grades of A’s and B’s and 93% or better attendance. Our amazing staff is prepared to work tirelessly with students and families to achieve this goal.

  • You can contact your student’s teacher through ParentSquare, which is also used by the school to share updates and important information. Please contact the school’s office to make sure your contact information is up to date. Download the ParentSquare app to stay connected.

  • The Board-approved school calendar, including holidays and important dates, is available on our website.
