Obsidian Newsletter ~ August 30, 2024
Greetings Wolfpack!
We are thrilled to have our Wolfpack back together next week! It was great to see so many students and families at our back to school night this past Wednesday. Please read through this newsletter carefully, as it contains important information about the first day and week.
Tuesday, September 3rd
6th Grade ONLY - On Tuesday all 6th grade students have their first day! This day is designed to help our amazing new Wolves transition to middle school. The focus for the day is on learning their schedule, practicing lockers, and meeting our staff. They will be led by our Obsidian staff and our amazing 8th grade pack leaders.
Wednesday, September 4th
ALL Students - This is our first day with the full Wolfpack! At 7:30AM all 6th grade students will go to their first period class, and all 7th and 8th grade students will go directly into the gym for a kickoff assembly. We will cover some basic school expectations as well as review the daily schedule. Paper schedules for all students will be available in the commons from 7:00AM - 7:30AM. Binders, pencil pouches, and paper will be provided to all students.
SCHEDULES:
Please read through these important notes about schedules.
All schedules are viewable in StudentVUE/ParentVUE online. If you are not familiar with StudentVUE/ParentVUE you can access sign-up information on our Obsidian website.
We have 590 students at Obsidian. This means, of course, we are not able to provide every student with their ideal, perfect schedule. We have limited seats and many times not every student gets their first choice.
This year the State of Oregon is requiring ALL students to have a full year of physical education. This is a state requirement and therefore no flexibility in opting out. PE will be one of your student’s two electives. PE Uniforms will be for sale starting Tuesday, September 3rd in the front office. They cost $10 for the shirt and $10 for the shorts. Students are also welcome to use their own black shorts and gray shirt if they choose not to purchase a uniform. Students will be expected to have PE clothes starting the second week of school.
Schedule changes. If your student would like to discuss a schedule change we ask that they schedule a meeting with Mrs. Earhart, our Student Success Coordinator. She will be overseeing all scheduling in partnership with our registrar. In middle school we really want to encourage our students to learn how to self advocate. Please encourage your student to schedule a meeting with Mrs. Earhart before reaching out as a parent/guardian. We have very tight class sizes this year and the opportunity to change schedules is unlikely.
Drop-Off:
Please make sure you pull all the way forward in our drop-off lanes each morning. This allows us to keep traffic flowing efficiently and prevents back-ups into the street. Below is a map of our traffic flow for drop-off and pick-up. Our doors will open at 7:00AM and breakfast will be provided for all students free of charge.

Student Conduct:
We are so excited to welcome our Wolves in and want to ensure that we have the best learning environment possible for our amazing students. In order to support that mission we will be reviewing our student handbook with all students over the first week of school. We encourage you to spend some time reviewing our rules and policies in order to help partner with us in making sure Obsidian is a great place to come and learn for our students. We are looking forward to an amazing 24-25 school year! I am confident that it will be the best year yet! Please don’t hesitate to stop by and introduce yourself, visit, and reach out with any questions. We are here to serve your student and family!
Go Wolves!
