Understanding Ballot Measure 9-174

Posted Date: 10/24/24 (01:41 PM)

Dear Obsidian Middle School Families,

I’d like to share some important information about the upcoming Proposed Redmond School District Bond, Measure 9-174.

In 2020, our school district began a two-phase bond plan to make schools safe, healthy, and accessible while maintaining the existing tax rate. The passage of the 2020 bond allowed us to make repairs and updates to every school and expand capacity at two of our elementary schools with new classroom wings.

The average age of our schools is 50 years and many of our buildings have aging fire safety, HVAC, and electrical systems that are past their usable life. You likely have heard by now that Redmond High School has failing hot water heating pipes that must be replaced to keep the school open. The November 2024 bond, if passed, will allow our district to make safety updates and repairs to all 13 school buildings as well as replace the failing pipes at Redmond High School.

What would happen here at Obsidian Middle School if the proposed measure passes?

Preserve & Maintain Schools
  • Xeriscaping to Reduce Water Usage

  • HVAC Upgrades

  • New Ceiling Tiles

  • New Gym Bleachers

  • New Gym Sound System

  • Resurface Track

  • Repair Fencing

  • Remodel Restrooms

If the proposed bond measure passes, what would it cost? Measure 9-174 is estimated to maintain the current tax rate of $2.26 per $1,000 of assessed property value which translates to $42.67 per month or $512.04 per year for the average homeowner in the district.

The measure can be found on your November ballot as Measure 9-174. You can find more information about the proposed Redmond School Bond online at www.RedmondSchoolBond.org

I encourage you to vote in this current election and in all elections.

Sincerely,

Evan Grant
