New Personal Electronic Devices Policy

What Do You Need to Know About the Personal Electronic Device Policy?

On July 2, 2025, Governor Tina Kotek signed Executive Order No. 25-09, establishing a statewide policy that prohibits the use of personal electronic devices during the school day in all Oregon public school districts. This order was created to support student mental health, reduce distractions, and give every student the best opportunity for academic success.

What Does This Mean for Redmond School District?
On August 20, 2025, the Redmond School District Board of Directors adopted Policy JFCEB to be fully compliant with the Governor’s Executive Order. RSD will fully enforce this policy beginning with the 2025–26 school year. While the district had already been moving toward banning cell phones and similar devices, the Governor’s directive accelerated our plans.

Key Details
  • Devices Included: The ban applies to all personal electronic devices, including cell phones, smartwatches, smart glasses, and earbuds.
  • When They’re Prohibited: Students are not allowed to use personal electronic devices on school grounds from the start of school hours until the end of school hours.
  • Transportation: Students may use personal electronic devices when riding district-provided transportation on their scheduled route to and from school.
  • Extracurriculars: Students may use personal electronic devices during extracurricular activities.
  • Storage: Personal electronic devices brought to school must be kept in lockers, backpacks, or other secured locations. Devices may not be carried on the student’s person or stored in clothing during school hours.

Disciplinary Consequences
Students in violation of Policy JFCEB will be subject to the following disciplinary actions:
  • First violation: The personal electronic device will be temporarily confiscated and held at the front office until the end of the school day. Parents or guardians will be notified.
  • Second violation: The personal electronic device will be temporarily confiscated and held at the front office until the end of the school day. A parent or guardian can either pick it up at the end of the day or call the school to authorize release to the student.
  • Third (or more) violation: The personal electronic device will be temporarily confiscated and held at the front office. A parent or guardian must have a meeting (by phone, virtual, or in person) with an administrator or dean of students before the device is released.

Communication with Your Student
We are committed to working with students, families, and teachers to provide the best learning environment we can. Please call your school office if you have an urgent need to contact your student.

Every student in Redmond School District is issued a Chromebook for instructional purposes, providing safe access to the internet, productivity tools, and school email.

We thank you for your partnership as we navigate this change together in support of student learning and well-being.

2025–26 School Supplies

Get ready for the new school year! Here’s what families need to know about school supplies in Redmond School District:

  • Elementary Schools: One common supply list for all Redmond elementary schools. Teacher-specific lists will be shared closer to the start of the year.
  • Middle Schools: Each school has its own voluntary supply list, similar to what students will need in high school.
  • High Schools: No official supply list. Teachers may request additional supplies at the beginning of the school year.

Transportation Info for the 25-26 School Year

Fall is fast approaching, and we look forward to welcoming students and families back to the 2025-2026 school year!

Redmond School District’s Transportation Services Department takes pride in seeing that every child arrives at school every day safely, on time, and ready to learn. A big part of safely transporting students is having everyone aware of their expectations as they ride a bus. Please reference our Bus RulesCode of Conduct, and Parent/Student Transportation Handbook for important information.

Student bus routes and stop locations can be found here. After August 25th, this link will be current and up to date. Postcards will not be mailed as they have been in the past; please locate bus stop information at the link above.

If you have a bus stop request, please submit it via our Bus Stop Request form. Stop requests submitted after August 1st will not be reviewed until mid-October, and the process started to adding approved stops will start.

You can find information about your students’ bus schedules and locations by using our all-in-one app, Stopfinder

Nutrition - School Meals Update

We are pleased to share that the Redmond School District will continue implementing the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) district-wide for the 2025–2026 school year.
District-wide CEP:
  • Increases access to healthy school meals
  • Promotes food security by supporting families financially
  • Reduces stigma associated with school meal benefits
  • Simplifies the payment system
  • Enhances convenience and participation
What this means for you and your student(s):
  • All Redmond School District students (including Redmond Proficiency Academy) are eligible to receive a free breakfast and lunch every regular school day during the 2025–2026 school year.
  • To qualify as reimbursable, meals must meet USDA requirements, including at least ½ cup of fruit or vegetable.
  • Families may still keep funds in their student’s meal account for extra entrées or individual milks.
  • Students are always welcome to bring meals from home.
Important Note:
Because of CEP, meal benefit applications will no longer be accepted or processed. All students automatically qualify for this no-cost meal program — no application needed.
