Obsidian Middle School Updates ~ November 12, 2025

OMS New Front

Greetings Wolfpack Families!

We are nearing the end of the trimester and want to share a few important updates to help everyone finish strong.

Please check in with your student this week to make sure any missing work gets turned in by the schoolwide deadline of November 18. Teachers are accepting late work through that date so students can show what they know before the trimester ends. The last day of the trimester is November 20, so now is a great time to review assignments and ask for help if anything is unclear.

Tomorrow, November 13, from 3:30–6:00 PM we will host a Student/Family Support Night. Students are welcome to come with a parent or guardian for a soup and salad dinner. Staff will be available to help with missing assignments and to support students who want to improve low grades. This is a relaxed time to get help, ask questions, and make a plan to finish the trimester well.

Report cards will be released on Friday, December 5 through ParentVUE and will also be sent home with students during school. Please check ParentVUE that day and look for the paper copy when it comes home.

We are so proud of how hard our students and staff have worked this trimester. We have seen steady progress and many successes across the school. Thank you for your continued support—together we can help every student finish the trimester strong.

School Culture – It Takes All of Us!
We had a very successful trimester 1 and are excited to build upon the positive student culture that we have established over the first few months.  Please help encourage your student to follow our three main rules: keep hands to yourself, use respectful and kind language, and keep phones off and away. If we all commit to these expectations we will maintain a safe learning environment for all of our students.

Go Wolves!

Best,
Evan Grant
Principal, Obsidian Middle School

IMPORTANT T2 Schedule Changes

When we return from Thanksgiving break, we launch right into Trimester 2. This means several important things for our students; a fresh start with grades and assignments and many students will experience schedule changes and a rotation in classes.

Attention 6th Grade Families: To balance classes and create an improved learning environment for our 6th-grade students, there will be many schedule changes. Many of our 6th-grade students will be rotating core teachers and have a new order to their classes for Trimester 2. These updated schedules will be reflected in StudentVUE by Friday, November 21st at 3:00 PM. We will help all of our 6th-grade students adjust to their new schedules the first week of the trimester.

Guide to Academic Success: Academic Support

Traffic

If you have dropped off your student this year, you have noticed that our traffic can get very backed up. To help get students to class and families in and out quickly, please make sure you: pull as far forward as possible; have your student get out of the car as soon as it comes to a stop regardless of where you are in the drop-off line; and use both lanes (each side of the median). We appreciate your patience and attention to help make drop-off go efficiently.

Friendly Reminders

  • Reach out early to your student's teacher if you feel they are struggling or falling behind. We want to help early before they get into too large of a hole.
  • Please do not have food delivered to OMS via any food delivery service.
  • When coming into the school for any reason, please use the north entrance on 15th St., located by the parking lot between Lynch Elementary and Obsidian Middle School.

Cell Phone Policy

If you have not already, please review our new cell phone policy that is in place as a result of the Executive Order signed by the Governor of Oregon this summer. Our goal is to put our focus and energy into student learning and not policing cell phones. We appreciate your partnership in enforcing the message that phones need to be off and away in lockers from 7:30 AM - 2:08 PM.

Student Recognitions

Each week, teachers recognize students who exemplify what it means to be a successful, kind student here at Obsidian. We want to promote positive interactions, behaviors, and efforts. Each newsletter I will share a list of students who have received a positive recognition from a staff member that month. This past month the following students have been recognized by a staff member for going above and beyond!
